I used to be a Michael but lately I’ve been a total GOB.
For Christmas, my mom bought me these jeans that are a pretty bright blue and have some ‘distressing’ (although, like, no rips or anything that serious)—ie: bro jeans—and, after wearing them around South Jersey for a while (because I’ll wear anything down here), I realized that I actually really love them. So average-ish!

Just agreed to disagree with pop re: racial profiling, terrorism, defense spending. I said, “O, come on,” several times, which I would prefer not to have to say to my dad, but he brought it up!
My sister and I just watched an episode of Bones. She didn’t know Emily was Zooey’s sister for whatever reason. I didn’t know Sam from Freaks and Geeks was an adult and on a tv show. Neither she nor my mother ever watched Freaks and Geeks.

It’s not that they’re not right, or that I know better than them, or anything condescending like that—if anything I’m the one who ought to be condescended to—but spending time with my mom’s family = woe is The Left.
I am about to go to sleep because I feel like “I’m about to pass out”, and I’ve pretty much always had ‘sleep problems’, so when I’m sleepy at 1030pm, I’m kinda stoked, namean?
Anyway, today I went to a family Christmas party in Wildwood, NJ. My grandmom (not the one I always talk about who says crazy things, the other one) lives down there now,...

a diva is...
For Christmas mass, we ended up going to St. Nicholas of Tolentine’s in Atlantic City. St. Nick’s doesn’t have a website or much of an online presence, so this description is going to have to be a little impressionistic, BUT—St. Nicholas’ is a lavish neo-Baroque cathedral located in the middle of the ghetto in Atlantic City. Okay, maybe not the MIDDLE of the ghetto,...

You’re allowed to still use “In this economy?” as a joke if referring to Sex And The City 2’s being made and having a trailer.

– Damn, I really wanna go see Julia now, or maybe I just want to read this sentence again and again (especially the “alcoholic slut” part).
correlation versus causation
barthel:
First, let’s not conflate “music critics” and “Grizzly Bear fans,” whoever did that. Second, music critics recommend lots of things aside from music by and for upper-middle class white people. (See year-end lists from Maura and Sasha Frere-Jones for but two examples.) It’s just that the readership is primarily middle-class (why does it have to be upper?), and so by definition, taking...

But the defining characteristic of hipsterism isn’t about what they like, it’s about how THEY want to dictate what YOU should like.
Except: that whole scene is a lifestyle movement driven by certain patterns of conspicuous consumption and/or recreational activity. It’s not really about anything anyone believes.
And re the original post that spawned this: come the fuck on. ...

I just finished spending two full days coding the worst Breakout Clone ever.
I know it’s pointless to complain about Windows, but AutoUpdate daemons can go fuck themselves regardless.

In snowstorm news...
I walked 20 blocks in the middle of the blizzard last night to get to my friend’s apartment. It was about 10:30 pm and there was already six inches of snow on the ground. It was probably not a good idea. I giggled to myself the whole way, and actually it was a pretty phenomenal experience. Just the walk. On the way I saw a taxi starting to skid, and it was going to get stuck in...
Well that was a fucking snowstorm and a fucking...

Today in the coffeeshop the barista was talking to another barista about how she was stressed out about grad school applications, and nothing for nothing, but I’m glad I’m good at math and I didn’t go to a liberal arts college. Not that I’m above being a barista working on grad school applications, because I am so not.
In poor people news, Progresso soup is on sale for $0.99 a can at Walgreens.
(It can keep Julie.)

While I was making chicken provençal for my family tonight (my grandmom: “What is this, an Italian dish?”) I contemplated the Black Metal, etc. I was tangentially exposed to in high school, and how I could never understand how anyone could possibly be that angry. Personally, I’ve experienced ‘anger’ less than two dozen times in my life—although there has been...

OMG my parents just got robocalled by this asshole:
Senator Jim Whelan gave in to the homosexual lobby, and is legislating your acceptance of same-sex marriage.
[…blah blah blah, call and and bitch about it]
duuuuude. He didn’t even say hello!
The number of “momversation” videos I’ve watched is more than five and I don’t know why.
